We are currently seeking a professional to join our Global Research Data Science team in the role of: Data Scientist.

This is an entry level role and we feel it would suit recent graduates or early career professionals with Data Science or Data Engineering backgrounds

A high-level overview of the role is: building predictive machine learning models and applying modern Natural Language Processing techniques to financial markets. You will gain exposure to all Global Markets asset classes and will have the opportunity to present and discuss your research with a global client base of sophisticated investors.

The role holder will also ensure the HSBC values are present in everything they do, both individually and as an organisation. The role has a hybrid working pattern allowing for home based and office-based working at HSBC offices at Canada Square, London. You must be able to travel to work in London on a weekly basis

In this role you will

  • Develop predictive models across all asset classes
  • Apply modern Natural Language Processing techniques to financial market texts
  • Incorporate data-driven investment insights into research publications
  • Discuss research with clients of HSBC Global Research
Requirements

To be successful you should meet the following requirements

  • Masters’ level qualification in a quantitative subject such as mathematics, physics, computer science
  • Highly proficient in Python, particularly in using common data science packages such as pandas, numpy, sklearn, xgboost, spacy, and transformers.

Successful candidates are likely to also meet some of the following requirements

  • A proven ability to perform independent research
  • Deep knowledge of current academic literature
  • Proficiency with modern data visualization techniques
  • Experience of Data Science or Data Engineering in a professional capacity
  • Understanding of financial markets
